English III

English III is a course that seeks to integrate the standards of reading, writing, and speaking and listening. Students will work to comprehend a wide variety of American texts, including traditional works of literature. Special emphasis is placed on persuasive writing. The course will emphasize the communication and critical thinking skills necessary to enable students to deal effectively with multicultural and ethnic diversity in a rapidly changing world.

To meet Louisiana Department of Education requirements we shall include the following components:

• Extended reading assignments that connect with specified curriculum

• Research-based writing assignments that address and extend the course curriculum

• Projects that apply course curriculum to relevant or real-world situations

• Open-ended investigations in which the student selects the questions and designs the research

• Writing assignments that demonstrate a variety of modes, purposes, and styles

• Integration of appropriate technology into the course of study

• Deeper exploration of the culture, values, and history of the discipline

• Extensive opportunities for problem solving experiences through imagination, critical analysis, and application

Further, the class serves as preparation for both the ACT and the EOC.

What Is EOC (End-of-Course Testing)?

End-of-Course (EOC) testing, a recommendation of the Louisiana High School Redesign Commission, is an increasingly common practice nationwide. EOC tests are based on state standards and help ensure consistent and rigorous instruction and expectations throughout the state.
